The older I get, the more I realize how my habits determine how I spend my time and whether or not I achieve my goals. Thus, I want to share my daily routine and how this affects my ability to find balance and work effectively and productively.

My Daily Schedule

4:00 am Wake up

Koa is my alarm clock, normally his whiskers gently tickle my face. But if I don’t wake up, I get a kiss. First, I check my body battery charge on my Garmin and evaluate how I feel.

6:00 am Leave for Central Park

I run approximately 5 miles 3-4 times a week and walk the other days for about 90 – 120 minutes. Spending my mornings in Central Park brings clarity. I just let my thoughts flow, unraveling any problems and gaining insight into possible solutions. Working through life, and leaving it all on the pavement. Not to mention, it gets me moving.

8:15 am Breakfast

Some of my favorite morning meals:

  • Bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll

  • Everything bagel with cream cheese and lox

  • Avocado toast with a medium-boiled egg

  • Mixed berries with Greek yogurt and granola As I am eating breakfast, I check emails, read the news, and listen to motivational clips. Some of my favorites:

  • MotivationHub

  • Eddie Pinero

  • Motiversity

9:00 - 11:45 am Focus time

I start my priority list. This usually includes medical communications projects, content writing, and anything that needs my full attention and a sharp mind.

11:45 am -12:45 pm Lunch

My go-to lunch is a salad. I prefer to pick up, as it gives me an excuse to get out and move. My go-to for quick pick-ups and favorite items:

  • Sweetgreen: favorite items: harvest bowl, super green goddess, garden caesar

  • Chopt: Santa Fe salad, chicken tinga bowl

  • Just Salad: winter harvest, earth bowl

While eating, I listen to TedTalks, Letters Live, or podcast episodes.

12:45 – 2:30 pm Creative Time

This time is the time that I schedule meetings, review work, and any other 2nd tier to-do’s on my list.

2:30 – 3:00 pm Strength workout or yoga

By this time of the day, my brain is tired and needs a break. I try to get a short exercise to rejuvenate my body. I love using Pelaton or Workout Women, as they provide quick 5-10 minute targeted body segments workouts.

3:00 -5:00 pm Koa’s Ruff Life

Work on any orders, bake or sew depending on what comes in. Sometimes this includes back-office work. Having a small business is my passion and lets my creative side shine.

5:00 – 6:30 pm Dinner

Anything goes for dinner. I usually like to go out for dinner as it gets me moving and Koa’s last walk for the evening. But if I’m ordering in, anything goes!

6:30 – 8:00 pm Relax time

This normally includes reading; my favorite is fantasy books. However, sometimes I use this time to finish a few additional things on the to-do list that I didn’t get around to.

8:00 – 9:00 pm Unwind

I listen to affirmations, journal which includes listing 3 positive things that occurred that day, and plan and prioritize the next day including a to-do list.

9:00 Sleep

I hope this gives you ideas on how to build your daily routine. Additionally, here are a few tips to consider for and set you up for success:

  • Exercise daily, move throughout the day

  • Have a morning routine. Tim Ferriss stated, “If you win the morning, you win the day”
